magick you can do on wednesdays

The next in the series of ‘when timing matters’ in magick: Wednesday. What types of magick are best to perform on a Wednesday, regardless of moon phase or time of year?

Planetary Correspondence to Wednesday

Mercury is the planet associated or corresponding to Wednesday on the calendar. Mercury energy is intellectual, artistic, psychic, and governs communication.

Wednesday is also most closely associated with the element air, which relates to knowledge, enlightenment, wisdom, and especially writing. Mercury is also associated with healing, travel, learning, and teaching, so these can be combined to do powerful workings involving health, poetry or creative writing, psychic development, and acquiring knowledge.

It is the 3rd day of the week (in the traditional calendar format which began the week on Monday), so is associated with the number 3 numerology.

Deities Associated with Wednesdays

This list will not include every single deity associated with Wednesday, but if there are deities you work with which are not on this list, and that are associated with [planet], Wednesday would also be a fine day to honor them.

8 magickal uses of labradorite

Labradorite is often referred to as the ’empath’s stone’ as it can help to filter emotions and many empaths like me find that it aids them in this.

Labradorite and the Aura

Part of the reason why labradorite aids in filtering emotional energy is that it is an aura-balancing stone and has protective properties. If you are particularly sensitive to emotional (or psychic) energy, keep a piece of labradorite around and program it to filter out only that which you want to receive.

Labradorite and Chakras

This is an excellent crystal to work with the higher chakras (throat, third eye, and crown). It can help to develop and use psychic abilities and can be used while meditating or doing chakra opening exercises if you are trying to enhance or clarify any clairs (clairvoyance, clairsentience, etc) you possess.

Labradorite and Empaths

Labradorite is also known as the ’empath’s stone’ by some, because it has a number of properties that aid empaths in protection, filtering, and strengthening emotional reading. Often carried near or on the body or worn as jewelry, it can protect one’s aura from emotional or energetic turbulence or imbalances coming your way.

Labradorite and Grounding

I’ve written briefly before about the importance of centering and grounding, and it just can’t be overstated that every witch, energy worker, or person meditating/traveling the astral should master centering and grounding before attempting deeper states of consciousness or spiritual communication. Grounding acts as a connection to the physical for our spirit and astral body, and can help to protect us (or help us protect ourselves) from low or negative energetic states or entities. Labradorite can be used for grounding before any of those activities.

Labradorite and Personal Power

This crystal also helps us find and step into our personal power by encouraging or inspiring us to trust our own abilities and power. This is a critical component of any energy or magickal working. If you need a little boost of self-confidence, consider bringing some labradorite into your life!

Labradorite and Inspiration

If you’re feeling stuck or uninspired, labradorite is also an excellent crystal with which to work to open up new ideas, new avenues, new ways of thinking, and find new paths you hadn’t seen before. Consider keeping a piece on your desk or wearing labradorite jewelry when journaling, writing, being creative, or other activities you want to stimulate creativity.

Labradorite and Dreams

You can use labradorite to enhance or strengthen psychic dreams or connect with higher consciousness while dreaming. Place it next to your bed or even under your pillow to stimulate the third eye and crown chakras.

Labradorite and Negative Energy or Thoughts

Similar to its ability to bolster your self trust or personal power, labradorite is a powerful crystal for blocking negative energy or even negative thoughts. Its a great stone for keeping a positive attitude, keeping your personal energy field clear and positive, and finding strong light energy wherever you bring it.

remove your ego from your practice and become a better witch

I want to share some thoughts based on a discussion I had the other day with my husband. He had been reading Ego is the Enemy, by Ryan Holiday. It’s a great book, and one I recommend all the time, regardless of whether you’re on a magickal, occult, or spiritual path at all.

But especially if you’re on a magickal, occult, or spiritual path. So, let’s talk about ego in magick or the occult.

Ego is something I see in a ton of new witches, but experienced ones alike. I see it in witches of all paths and cultures. Its not something that anyone is immune to. I had to battle with it myself when I first started this journey, and do occasionally still have to check my ego from time to time.

But why I’m writing this is the simple fact that so many of us could be doing so much better if we would completely remove ourselves from the equation. What I mean by that is that 90+% of the time, something someone said to you or did to you has nothing to do with you at all.

That person is miserable, unhappy, chaotic, or otherwise struggling to hold on, and you were just convenient.

They may have bad or destructive habits that affect you, but they’re not consciously trying to affect you. They’re just not in control and they’re projecting all that out around them to whatever and whoever is closest.

Most of the time, you don’t even need to be involved in anyone else’s bullshit. Most of the time, you’re focusing on what others are doing and how you think they think about you, instead of fixing the way you think about yourself.

Someone called you a name on the internet? It has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them being a shitty, small, insecure person. Someone gave you the evil eye? It has nothing to do with you and everything to do with their ego and pettiness. And so on. You get the picture.

And you continue to feed their ego when you continue to let them affect you. Your own ego drives this.

What is Ego?

Let me go here for a minute so we’re all on the same page with what I’m referring to.

Dictionary. com defines this in two ways:

the “I” or self of any person; a person as thinking, feeling, and willing, and distinguishing itself from the selves of others and from objects of its thought.

Psychoanalysis: the part of the psychic apparatus that experiences and reacts to the outside world and thus mediates between the primitive drives of the id and the demands of the social and physical environment.

In this post, I’m referring to the second definition, as it pertains to psychoanalysis. The ego is the sense of self-importance.

Self-Importance Will Ruin Your Magick

Of course you should be the most important person in your life. So this isn’t some diatribe on always putting others first. Put yourself first almost all of the time, and help others as much as you can without depleting yourself in the process.

Many of us find, choose, or stumble upon this path because we feel pulled or called to it. Or maybe they are healers of one kind and decide the magickal or spiritual healing path is better suited to them.

Others because its something they’ve grown up with in their family or culture. And others, still, because they want to obtain power, influence, material wealth, exact revenge, or some other reason of personal gain.

Whatever the reason, we’re here now. But the last group, let’s be real. There’s a little bit of this in all of us.

Who hasn’t at least once wanted to be more skilled, more powerful, wealthier (crystals are fucking expensive ok), or some other intent that centers around a personal or selfish desire?

And that’s okay. Its human nature to want to fulfill your basic human needs like shelter, food, warmth, and socialization. Not mad at anyone ’cause this is me, too.

But then we all know at least one person (or maybe its our own self) that is on this path to seek power and control. They’re driven by their ego’s need to be recognized as important. They won’t think twice about throwing a curse. Their only end goal is to be smarter, more skilled, more whatever than everyone else, simply to be able to say they are and have control. They prefer being feared to being respected.

And everything with those people is personal. You know exactly what I mean. They constantly think someone is criticizing them, trying to curse them, doesn’t like them, is a threat to them, is attacking their ideas, and so on and so forth.

This person’s ego is massive. They are incredibly self-important. And its 1000% preventing this person from truly realizing spiritual enlightenment.

I can guarantee you that the more you think of yourself as better, and the more reactive you are to what others say and do, the more you limit your own growth. The minute you head down this path of thinking, you effectively shut off the access your spirit has to higher consciousness.

You are literally what is standing in your own way.

The biggest lesson in this is that you, yes you, are connected to everything. And everyone. We are all one big ‘All One’ of energy. So, when you energetically send your ego after someone, the ripples effect you just as much.

And I’m not talking about the rule of 3. I’m talking about energetic connectedness. Every effort you put into caring what someone said or did, you create an energetic bridge to them, and you just keep on laying bricks down across it for as long as you care.

What if You Stop Giving a Fuck?

This is where my life changed dramatically. And if I can pass on one tip as my legacy to new witches it is this. Stop giving a fuck about literally everyone else. Your family, your partner, your boss, your kids. Remove all them for a second and look at just you. Just who and what you are.

What would make you happy (extremely, truly, unreservedly, unapologetically, ecstatically happy) with yourself so that you can achieve anything in life you want? Do you need any of those other people’s opinions to get there?

How much time does your brain spend per day occupied with other people compared to occupied with you?

This is where we differentiate between loving yourself and knowing that you are valuable and important, yet at the same time insignificant in the greater picture, as are we all…

and

being self-important, thinking everything should revolve around you, using people, looking down on others, letting insecurity guide your decisions and reactions, or generally being self-centered to the extent of unnecessarily and excessively harming others in the process.

Option A is where we remove ego and act from a place of realizing that every action, thought, and spoken word has power over others, but also over us.

Every time I throw shade on someone, I’m throwing a little back on myself. Every time I worry about someone’s opinion of me, I hand them power over me. Every time I don’t live to fulfill my own happiness, I am telling myself that I don’t matter to anyone, especially me.

So, what I’m saying here is not to not do magick for yourself. Always do magick for yourself, and for others if you can.

But if you approach magick and spirituality with the mindset that the vast majority of the time, you do not need to be involved in whatever energetic bullshit is dragging other people down, and you don’t need to take things personally, and you do not have to let someone affect you if you don’t want them to, its like the best fucking energetic shield you can conjure.

Start asking this one question every time you feel yourself getting ready to react to someone or something: Is this really even about me? And is it my responsibility to do something about this?

I think you’ll find you free yourself of many energetic burdens and connections you’ve likely been carrying around for a while.

how to make a facewash spell

A facewash spell is probably one of the easiest spells you can do anytime you want and with very little witchy experience and/or supplies.

If you’re a witch on a budget, its pretty useful because you already wash your face anyway, and you may be able to do this with nothing more than common kitchen herbs or plants you wild forage (respectfully and responsibly). You can even use this as a replacement for ritual bathing in many instances.

What is a Facewash Spell?

Don’t overthink this. As you are washing your face, a usually common, mundane task, you are infusing this mundane act with your magickal intent to obtain an outcome you want.

And, any facewash can usually be done as a hairwash, or you can combine the two for more magickal power.

I also really like facewash and hairwash spells for those who do not have the ability to take baths regularly. Bath magick can be fun, but it can be replicated in other ways.

I used to only really ever hear of facewash spells in terms of glamour magick, and they certainly do work for that, but there are so many many more uses for this kind of magick.

Any spell you want to perform could theoretically be done via a facewash/hairwash spell, with the one exception being baneful magick. I would just not recommend doing a baneful spell in the form of anything you’re applying to your face and/or hair, as the potential for backfire can really wreck your life (and your appearance).

How Do You Make a Facewash Spell?

Ok, here’s where you can get creative in a number of ways. I’ll give you a few basic approaches, neither is right or wrong, they’re just different approaches and you can choose what feels most right for your purposes.

Option 1: Make a Rinse Solution

This is one of the simplest methods and is easy on both your skin and hair, as well as can be (and usually is) left in your hair to let it dry, or air dry on your skin.

  1. In a pot on your stovetop, bring several cups of water to a boil and add herbs, essential oils, plants, flowers, etc of your choice. Let simmer for ~20 min. Remove from the heat, then strain through a fine wire mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove all solid pieces.
  2. Let it cool enough to be able to apply to skin or hair. PLEASE DO NOT EVER PUT SCALDING WATER ON YOURSELF.
  3. Using clean hands or a cotton round, apply to your face or gently pour over your hair. Depending on the type of spell, you may want to say a few words or a mantra of your choice. Whatever you decide, while you are applying the wash, picture strongly what your outcome should be. Your intent is the most critical piece of this.
  4. Also depending on the type of spell, you may decide to leave it to air dry, or rinse it out with clean water. Here are some general guidelines, but your own unique situation may dictate something different. Use your intuition.
  • Leave it to dry if you are drawing something to you or hoping to gain something (most constructive magick fits into this category); love, money, luck, success, opportunities, protection, strength, courage, etc
  • Rinse it off if you want to remove, cleanse, banish, or otherwise get rid of something; breaking a habit, ending a toxic connection, cord cutting, uncrossing, cleansing, purification, etc

Now, some exceptions exist. You could make the argument that in a purification wash, letting it dry instead of rinsing off, allows your aura to fully absorb the purifying herbs or essential oils, and, therefore, you want to leave it on. This is where intuition can guide you better for your circumstances.

Option 2: Make a Soap-Based Wash

I would lean more toward this option for all destructive magick (getting rid of, letting go, banishing, cleansing, etc), but you could absolutely use it for constructive purposes if your intent is restated in such a manner that the rinsing off of the solution indicates you ridding yourself of whatever is preventing the good or beneficial outcome you’re looking for.

Example: let’s say you want to do well in an important presentation at work and you need to feel confident. You could change up your spell to banish self-doubt or negative self-talk/thoughts so that you feel confident, beautiful, smart, or whatever you’re trying to achieve.

  1. Get a mild and gentle (ideally all natural or organic) soap base that is safe to use on your skin or hair. A really good option here that should work for almost anyone is organic unscented baby shampoo. This can be used on virtually all skin types, as well as most hair, if you’re choosing to apply to your hair.
  2. An alternative to baby shampoo is castille soap. Its usually gentle for skin. You may or may not want to apply to your hair, depending on how dry or oily your scalp is. You can mix a little castille soap with a little coconut oil for a bit more moisturizing base. It already contains some oil, but play around with adding an extra 1 Tbsp oil per 1/4 cup soap.
  3. Pour out about 1/4 cup soap base into a glass mixing cup and stir in a couple drops of any essential oils or add flower petals of your choice corresponding to your intended outcome.
  4. If you’re only making enough solution to use once, then it would be okay to add solids like minced, ground, or mashed plant matter, but these can spoil rapidly or create a medium in which mold can grow over time, so if it will be a multi-use solution, its best not to include physical plant matter.
  5. Pour into a clean empty cosmetic bottle with a lid of your choice. Label it. It should keep for at least a few months.
  6. Wash your face and/or hair with your solution, say any words or mantras you wish, and leave in/on for however long you feel is appropriate. Rinse off.
  7. It’s a good idea to test a small area of skin before applying any new products or substances, to ensure you are not allergic or otherwise sensitive to anything in the product.

Option 3: Combine a Rinse and a Soap

You can simply create your water-based rinse solution and, once cooled, add it to your soap base in a ratio of 2:1 soap base to water-base. Mix and then let it settle (this can take a few hours up to possibly a day).

This is a good method for when you want to work with a soap base but don’t want to be limited to just essential oils, and want the flexibility of more plants/flowers.

I can’t say enough how the most important element of this spell is being clear about your intent. Use strong mental visualization whenever possible and really feel this intent pouring into your mixture as you’re making it and applying it.

how to make a magickal oleum

An oleum is just a fancy word for an oil used for ritual purposes. They are different from infusions in that they are heated to incorporate the properties and components of the plant matter in them, rather than left in a warm location for weeks, such as with an infusiono.

And they are ridiculously easy to make.

What You Will Need:

  • about 1/2 – 1 cup base oil (if just making for yourself, you don’t usually need more than 1/2 cup)
  • about 1-2 tsp of each herb, plant, resin, or other ingredients of your choice
  • a pot, but a double boiler works for this too
  • a stovetop
  • a wire mesh strainer or cheesecloth
  • a clean bowl or glass measuring cup (easiest to get something with a pour spout)
  • a funnel (preferably glass, but silicon or plastic will be ok in a pinch)
  • clean glass bottles with lids or droppers; preferably dark glass to limit how much light gets to the oils inside

What You Will Do:

  1. Bring your oil to a soft rolling boil on the stove.
  2. Add whatever ingredients you have chosen.
  3. Turn the heat down to low and let simmer for 20 min.
  4. Remove from heat and strain into a clean glass measuring cup or other clean bowl through the solid out with a fine wire mesh or cheesecloth.
  5. Let the oleum cool for about 5 min. Pour into the glass bottles using the funnel.
  6. Label them however you prefer and store away from direct sunlight or heat. These can keep for up to a year if you keep them away from sun.

What type of base oil should you use?

Because this will be an oil that you heat up or boil to create it, you will probably want to choose a base oil that is more stable at higher temperature.

Avocado oil has the highest smoke point of most oils you’ll be able to get ahold of, so it makes a great base oil for ritual oleums.

Olive oil also has a decently high heat stability, at least enough to withstand boiling and not break down. Olive oil is also considered sacred in many spiritual belief systems, which is why I tend to lean toward this as my base oil.

Coconut oil can be an option if you use some that is fractionated, which means it remains liquid at room temp, unlike most other coconut oil which is solid at room temp. If your ultimate goal is to create an oleum that is more solid, then you can certainly go with standard coconut oil, though.

Regular old vegetable oil is also very heat stable and if you are on a budget, you can go this route. It’s usually made from corn in the US.

Canola has essentially the same effect as vegetable oil for these purposes and is also affordable.

Any other plant-based oils may not be ideal for high heat (boiling) and I would avoid using them, as they have a higher likelihood of going rancid.

As I stated before, I lean toward olive oil because it has a pleasant aroma, and its magickal meaning is important to me. I find it makes a great oleum, and its vibrations are higher and much more pleasant to me than the vegetable oils.

what is magickal breath?

There are a number of ways to incorporate breath into your magickal practice.

Breath in itself is viewed as magickal, as it is the drawing in of the air element to the physical corporeal body, filling the body with a necessary life-sustaining requirement. Breathing it back out, the air is now transformed to carbon dioxide and expelled from the body.

In many spiritual practices, it is viewed as something which connects the spirit to the physical. Even in passages of the Christian Bible, babies are not viewed as alive until the breath of God is breathed into them upon birth.

In yoga, there is significant focus on breath. Practitioners are guided when to move on a breath in vs a breath out. Breath expands and collapses parts of the body. It creates force on us, moving energy throughout important chakras and nerve/circulation centers.

So, breath symbolically, spiritually, and physically carries some pretty important meaning.

Here are some ways you can use magickal breath in your practice:

Breath During Meditation

I wrote a longer post on a breathing exercise that I have found helpful to calm a chaotic mind, but breathing itself is generally a recommended focus during meditation because it provides your mind with something tactile to focus on, while not focusing on anything else at all.

The deep inhalation and exhalation of breath can still and calm the heart, as well, which helps to ease you into a more relaxed physical and mental state.

There’s good reason why the majority of books and written guides for magickal practice emphasize breath work in meditation, due to its ability to create a calm state of mind and body.

Breath is also how we expel energy from the body and how we can visualize expelling energy we no longer want to hang onto.

Visualization during meditation may often start with breathing in a clean white light and breathing out frustrations, negativity, and anything else bothering you.

Breath to Consecrate

As humans are part of the divine, however you view that divinity, we have divinity within us, and as such, our own breath is that of the divine manifested in physical form.

When consecrating your magickal tools or other items, it is common in many traditions to present the tool or item to all four elements. This might include passing it over a flame, placing it in a bowl of salt or soil, sprinkling a bit of water on it, and…breathing on it.

Our own breath is obviously the element of air, and given that it comes from within us, it is also a divine breath.

Magickal Breath on Sigils

When invoking a spirit or deity, you can use your breath to breathe on the sigil you have drawn. You can also use your magickal breath to blow on a sigil that you have created for anything else, to activate it.

It is this divine nature of our breath that we can connect to symbols and images to bring us closer to the energy of the spirit we’re attempting to invoke, as if we’re communicating more on the level of our spirit or soul.

You can try this after creating a sigil and meditating on it or the entity associated with it, and when you feel ready, gently blow on the sigil to activate it, visualizing your own energy connecting and meshing with that of the sigil, ‘lighting it up’ so to speak.

There are probably many other ways you can use breath in magick, so get creative! You could explore combining breath and sound, such as singing, humming, chanting, or other ways to breathe magickally!

symbolism of the bat

I decided to put this together for those, like me, who are drawn to bats but are a bit frustrated that not much information exists as far as their magickal or spiritual symbolism.

History of bats in magick or spiritualism

Bats are the only mammal that truly flies. There are other mammals that can glide, but bats actually can sustain flight. This alone renders them symbolic of existing in two worlds, or being able to cross barriers or divides.

In Chinese culture, bats were seen as symbols of longevity and blessings. In Asian cultures in general, the bat is revered as the maternal aspect of the goddess, or divine feminine.

In most Western cultures, they were associated with the underground, the underworld, and the nocturnal, which often characterized them as bad, evil, or dark omens.

They also have associations with the shadow self of the human psyche, as they reside and emerge from the dark caverns of the world, much like the dark and hidden recesses of the mind.

They are associated with both the new moon and full moon, and, therefore, were long ago associated with witchcraft and spirits.

In cultures where fruit bats, such as the flying fox, are prevalent, they are associated with fertility, due to their role in pollination of fruit trees and night-blooming vegetation.

The lore surrounding the tiny vampire bats of Central and South America has certainly also fed the fear factor of bats, even leading to the connection with the human vampire stories, despite no real records of vampire bats biting or feeding on humans.

Moreover, bats also consume insect pests like mosquitos, providing a critical element of ecological control in their food chain.

Symbolically, bats are the unconventional, the misunderstood, the mysterious, and the non-conformists. I think that is why I see the bat as an ally animal, as it resonates so deeply for me in many phases and transitional periods of my life.

Associations and Correspondences of the Bat

Planets: the Moon

Deities: the only strongly defined bat deity is Camazotz, the bat deity of the Mayans. He was associated with night and death. The only other deity I have been able to find information on said to be associated with bats is Hekate. There may be others, but not that I have been able to identify and confirm with a reliable source.

6 magickal properties of amethyst crystal

Amethyst is probably one of the most common crystals that people buy when they are first exploring things like crystal healing or magick. Its a great basic and well-rounded crystal for a handful of reasons.

Amethyst for third eye opening

One of the most well-known uses of amethyst is its connection to the third eye and psychic abilities. If this is an area you are currently working on developing skill in, using amethyst crystals during meditation or divination can help you tune in and be more open to messages.

Amethyst for dream enhancement

Because if its strong connection to psychic abilities and the spirit world, it also works as an excellent antennae to receive prophetic or psychic dreams, or even to help you develop lucid dreaming skills.

Try meditating with it just before bed, stating firm intentions such as ‘I will have psychic dreams tonight,’ ‘My spirit guides will send me important information while I sleep,’ or ‘I will have lucid dreams tonight.’

You can also place a small piece of amethyst under your pillow or on a bedside table to bring on dreaming.

Amethyst for calming

In addition to working on the third eye, amethyst also helps to soothe nerves and keep you calm when you’re nervous or feeling stressed out.

You can keep some amethyst on your desk at work to help you deal with typical workplace energies, or carry it with you when you travel to dispel nerves about your trip, as it is also said to protect travelers.

Amethyst for transforming

Not transforming yourself, but more like transforming an emotion or feeling that is unpleasant or negative into something positive or higher vibe.

Hold an amethyst palm stone or orb and visualize the emotion you want to transform and then what it is transforming into. All emotion is energy and all energy is constant. It cannot be destroyed, but it can be transformed (or transmuted) to another form.

Amethyst for intuition

To add to the effects it has on the third eye, amethyst also supports our own innate intuitive abilities, helping us better tune into that inner voice and its messages.

If you tend to struggle with opening up intuition, or even hearing/feeling it, trying holding an amethyst crystal and repeating an affirmation such as ‘I am intuitive and receive helpful information from my higher self.’

Amethyst for protection

This deep purple stone is also known for spiritual and psychic protection, particularly from curses, hexes, and the evil eye.

Should you find yourself the target of another magickal practitioner’s ire (because, while we all want to believe that the witchy community is one big welcoming family, there are those among us who can be petty about perceived slights, or even very real threats or insults from others), wearing amethyst jewelry that’s been charged with your intention or hanging protection wards around your home or vehicle that include amethyst can help to dispel those negative energies and repel them.

a quick guide to candle magick

Candle magick is by far one of the easiest and most accessible forms of spell work. It requires so very little actual items or tools and can be done anywhere.

This will not just be another guide to which color of candle to use for a certain type of spell. This is more a process that you can begin to use right away to implement candle magick easily and safely.

Candles are an inexpensive magickal item and you can even find them at most regular stores, craft stores, and even places like Target. They’re typically cheap, come in a wide range of colors, and maybe even scents.

Besides a candle or a few, you’ll only need something to light it with. That’s it. Anything else you want to include in your candle magick is optional.

How to Perform a Basic Candle Spell

Preparation

  1. You will need to define a specific outcome that you want. This is your intent. You should be able to write this out in one basic sentence. If you write it out and its more than one sentence or its longer than maybe a standard line on a piece of physical paper, its probably too long.
  2. Your intent should also only contain one outcome or goal. If you make it about two different things, your intent and will may have a hard time finding a specific target and you could risk muddling the results or getting nothing, or, worse yet, things going wrong.
  3. So, be as specific as possible in your intent.

The Candle Spell

  1. Center and ground yourself. (*hint, a wrote a book review previously about Spiritual Protection by Sophie Reicher and she gives very simple and easy to perform centering and grounding technique suggestions, but you can use anything you like that works for you).
  2. Once you feel you have sufficiently arrived into your body, you are focused and have cut the strings attached to whatever you were doing prior to this, let your mind clear, taking deep breaths until you feel your heart rate slow down and you are relaxed.
  3. At this point, you will need to raise energy. You can do this a myriad of ways. Dancing, drumming, singing, listening to music, chanting, visualizing, etc etc.
  4. Once you feel you have sufficiently raised your energy, hold your intended candle in your hands however feels intuitively the most comfortable to you. I like to put one hand above the other along the length of the candle, wrapping fingers tightly around it and pressing it into my palms, covering it completely.
  5. Now, you’ll visualize transferring as much of that wonderful energy you raised into the candle.
  6. As you do so, repeat your phrase of intent or a mantra (I just think it intently over and over, but you can also say it out loud), or simply something that symbolizes your intent. You should feel the energy transferring to the candle.
  7. After a few minutes, there will be a definite point where you feel the energy transfer slow or stop, and the candle has reached its saturation. You can choose to say a few words such as ‘This object now knows its purpose, my will be done’ but you don’t have to.
  8. Place the candle in a safe base and light it. Let it burn all the way down. Make sure you can be near it to monitor that it is safely burning. If you have to leave, blow it out and re-light it when you return, repeating your intent statement mentally or out loud as you light it.

That’s it!

Now, you can of course make this much more elaborate by adding herbs, oils, resins, carvings, symbols, or other things to the candle before lighting it, but it’s not required. If your intent and will are sufficiently infused with the candle, that’s really all you need.
